So winter has arrived – well it certainly feels that way anyway! Winter brings with it the countdown to Christmas, cosy nights in front of the telly, homemade comfort food and the not so comforting rise in our energy bills!
It’s no secret, many of us are struggling with money and the thought of our energy bills dropping through the letterbox, demanding to be paid for makes a lot of us want to sit in the dark and cook by a camp fire! But this is the 21st Century not the Stone Age! And there are plenty of things we can do to help reduce the cost of our energy bills – and you’ll be pleased to know they are far removed from the routines of the Cave Men!
We all know we can benefit from solar panels, they are a long term investment and something that everyone should at least consider, but there’s a lot of quick fixes we can do around the home too:
Don’t overfill your kettle…
We’re all guilty of filling our kettles up to the max line, hitting the switch and waiting for it to boil without even thinking about it. But heating water uses a lot of energy so get into the habit of only boiling what you need – it can save you up to £20 a year!
….But Do Fill Your Dishwasher
Who could live without their trusty dishwashers? They are a great invention but just make sure you only switch it on when it’s full. Nearly 80% of the energy needed to power your dishwasher cycle is used to simply heat the water. You should take the same approach to putting a load of washing on or turning on the tumble drier.
Swap Your Baths for Showers
We all love sinking into a warm, bubble bath at the end of a long day, especially during the winter months but having a shower uses on a third of the energy it takes to fill a bath so try and save those indulgent baths for special occasions or for when it’s really, really cold!
Here at SolarTech we are dedicated to helping you save money and reduce those all-important energy bills. If you’re interested in solar panels, heat pumps or any of our other products don’t hesitate to get in touch with us and find out how we can help you and your home.
