Ground Source Heat Pumps in Northampton
HOW IT WORKS
Ground Source Heat Pumps work by taking heat from under the ground. This is then converted into to usable heat via a heat pump. Up to 4kW of heat energy for every kW of energy input into the system can be produced from the Ground Source Heat Pump cycle. The system works like cooling a refrigerator but in reverse. The heat produced can be used to heat domestic hot water and in addition, can be used for space heating.
An Air Source Heat Pump works in a similar way to Ground Source Heat Pumps, however, instead of harvesting heat energy in the ground, it utilises heat energy in the air. Air Source Heat Pumps can typically produce approximately 3kW of heat energy for every kW of energy input into the system, making them less efficient that Ground Source Heat Pumps. However, the advantages of Air Source Heat Pumps are that they have lower installation costs and need less space. Installation costs and “whole life costs” will need to be considered and our designers can help you find the most suitable type of heat pump to fit your requirements.
The Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) in Bedford
Ground Source Heat Pumps are an excellent method of providing alternative heating for a new home and work particularly well with under floor heating systems. Due to the wide variety of services we offer together with our extensive experience of renewable energy systems, we are also able to integrate solar panel systems (including solar hot water heating) with our air source and ground source heat pumps.
When you install a ground or air source heat pump system, you may be eligible for payments under the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). This is a government scheme that was set up to encourage households and businesses to use renewable heating energy systems. The scheme also provides for ongoing payments for renewable heat energy produced. If you would like some further information about the Renewable Heat Incentive scheme, please refer to our funding page.
