Solar panels also known as solar photovoltaic (PV) are designed to capture the sun’s rays as a source of energy using photovoltaic cells, which generate electricity or heating. These cells do not need direct sunlight to work, they just need daylight, meaning that even on a cloudy day they are likely to generate electricity. The cells which convert sunlight into electricity can then be used to run household appliances and lighting.
PV cells are measured at kilowatt peak (kWp), this is the rate at which energy is generated at peak performance in direct sunlight during the summer. The majority of PV systems are made up of panels which fit on top of an existing roof, but PV tiles can also be installed.
Here at SolarTech we have installed over 7000 systems, so when you choose us as your PV panel installers you can rest assured you are coming to a professional and experienced team. We install tier 1 products with the best guarantees and warranties on the market.
Installing a PV system means a reduction in the cost of your electricity supply as you will not need to purchase as much, and this will lessen the impact on the environment. Additionally you will be able to claim Feed In Tariff (FIT) payments for 20 years of electricity you generate, whether this is used by you or someone else! These payments are index linked, so they rise with RPI each year.
Domestic Solar Panel Installations
Here at SolarTech we have a numerous amount of experience in the design, installation and maintenance of solar panels for homeowners.
Your PV system will reduce your energy bills, carbon footprint and provide you with an index linked 20 year income. A separate meter is installed to measure the amount of electricity generated, and under the Governments ‘Feed In Tariff Scheme’ your utility company will pay you an enhanced rate for this energy – whether you use it or not.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need planning permission? - click here
No. Planning permission is not usually required as most installations come under your permitted development rights. However, if your house is in a conservation area or is a listed property, then you will still require consent.
How long will it take to install? - click here
Installations are usually carried out in 1 or 2 days and with minimum disruption. As most of the work is fitting panels to your roof, we will only require limited access to your property for the final connection.
Commercial Solar Panel Installations
Solar panels can be retrofitted on existing premises or built into new developments at the time of construction. They are suitable for any type of commercial property from single dwellings, to large industrial buildings.
We have an extensive amount of experience within the design and installation process of solar panels in the commercial new build property sector, and are on hand to assist in achieving renewable energy targets. Planning must be approved beforehand, and we will work closely with your design team to ensure that renewable energy targets are achieved, with the best technical and financial solutions.
Systems are usually connected to National Grid but can be stand-alone – off grid. We will do everything from the design and supply, to the installation and maintenance. Additionally we can design tailor made schemes which make use of multiple renewable technologies that compliment the use of PV.
We use M.C.S. approved solar equipment, so government funding is available in most cases. See the funding page for further details. Please go to our Facebook gallery to view finished PV systems.
