solar pv panels

Solar Panels (PV)

Solar panels, also known as solar photovoltaic (PV), capture the sun’s energy using photovoltaic cells. These cells do not need direct sunlight to work, just daylight, therefore even on a cloudy day could still be generating electricity. The cells convert the sunlight into electricity, which can be used to run household appliances and lighting.

The power of a PV cell is measured in kilowatt peak (kWp). This is the rate at which it generates energy at peak performance in full direct sunlight during the summer. Most PV systems are made up of panels that fit on top of an existing roof, but PV tiles can also be installed.

Solar PV systems are a long term investment and it is essential that you choose a partner such as SolarTech who have installed over 7000 systems. SolarTech only install Tier 1 products with the best guarantees and warranties on the market.

If you install a PV system you will be reducing the cost of your electricity supply (because you will not need to buy as much) and lessening your impact on the environment. In addition to this you will also be able to claim Feed in Tariff (FIT) payments for the next 20 years for the electricity you generate whether you use it yourself or not! These payments are index linked so they rise with RPI each year.

Commercial Solar Panel Installations

PV systems are usually (but do not have to be) mounted on the roof of the property. They can be retrofitted on existing premises or built into new developments at the time of construction. They are suitable for single dwellings right up to large industrial and commercial buildings.

SolarTech have extensive design and installation expertise in the commercial new build and retrofit sector including assisting with achieving renewable energy targets. These are commonly dictated as a condition of planning approvals or are defined by your S.A.P. or energy assessor. We will work closely with your design team to ensure that the renewable energy targets that are required on your project are achieved with the best technical and financial solution.

Systems are normally connected to the National Grid but can be standalone, off grid. We offer a full design, supply, solar panel installation and maintenance service. We can also design tailor made schemes that make use of multiple renewable technologies that would complement the use of PV.

We only use M.C.S. approved solar equipment, so government funding is available in most cases. See the funding page for more details. Please go to our Facebook gallery to see finished PV systems.

Solar Panel Systems on Domestic Buildings

Solar panel systems are usually (but do not have to be) mounted on the roof of the property. They can be retrofitted on existing premises or built into new developments at the time of construction. They are suitable for single dwellings right up to large industrial and commercial buildings.

Your PV system will reduce your energy bills, carbon footprint and provide you with an index linked 20-year income. A separate meter is installed to measure the amount of electricity generated, and under the Governments ‘Feed In Tariff Scheme’ your utility company will pay you an enhanced rate for this energy – whether you use it or not.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need planning permission? - click here

No. Planning permission is not usually required as most installations come under your permitted development rights. However, if your house is in a conservation area or is a listed property, then you will still require consent.

How long will it take to install? - click here

Installations are usually carried out in 1 or 2 days and with minimum disruption. As most of the work is fitting panels to your roof, we will only require limited access to your property for the final connection.
