Buckingham based company SolarTech Ltd received the 2009 award from the National Home Improvement Council for “the best practice in renewable energy systems”
The award ceremony was hosted by Nick Raynsford MP and was held in the Gladstone Library, Whitehall.
SolarTech won the award for their project working with a number of Local Authorities aimed at helping vulnerable homeowners on a range of benefits, including income support, disability living allowance and working families tax credits.
The scheme provided free solar systems to these families helping them reduce their fuel bills and carbon emissions. With the introduction of the governments feed in tariff from next April, many of these families will also receive an income from the Energy Supply Companies for the energy their systems produce..
SolarTech were presented their award by The Housing Minister; the Rt Hon John Healey. The Judges commented that “the scheme had been a huge success in alleviating fuel poverty and had proved to be a model to other local authorities”.
Shaun Taylor of SolarTech said “we are delighted to win this prestigious award, particularly as it recognised best practice in our industry across the country. The award is a credit to all of our team who have worked hard in delivering this scheme”.
